KORN: NEW ALBUM RELEASE JULY 13!!!!

Filed under: Uncategorized —— Alex Howard @ 4:13 pm

According to HardDrive Radio, Korn’s new album, “Korn III – Remember Who You Are“, will be released on July 13. The first single from the CD, “Oildale (Leave Me Alone)“, will go for radio adds on May 3-4.

600full-korn

Korn’s ninth offering, “Korn III – Remember Who You Are“, is the band’s first effort for brand new label home, Roadrunner Records, and it bursts at the seams with that very feeling that defined the band from the get-go. Each song unleashes an uneasiness reminiscent of Korn’s earliest and most unbridled material, but there’s also a modern refinement that’s epic in its execution.

Korn bleed with unsettling and unpredictable aggression on “Remember Who You Are“‘s 10 tracks. “Oildale (Leave Me Alone)” buzzes with an eerie clean guitar that slowly gives way to a steamrolling bass and riff assault. “Move On” morphs from a myriad of creaking tones into an explosive vocal freak-out that’s impossible not to connect with it on a visceral level. Then there’s the neck-snapping “Fear Is A Place to Live” tempering deadly guitar dissonance with an unforgettable chorus.

“This album is a reflection of us being a band since 1993,” says vocalist Jonathan Davis“We worked hard on the previous records, and we experimented a lot. For ‘Remember Who You Are’, the four of us got together in a small room with the intention of writing an old-school KORN record. This album is a perfect mixture of everything we’ve done, and this version of the band is the best ever.”

Lollapalooza 1991: Revisited

Filed under: Uncategorized —— Alex Howard @ 12:30 am

One of the most anticipated concerts this summer and every summer is the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.  This year, highly anticipated Soundgarden reunion is happening here, as they are the headliners along with Green Day, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, and The Strokes, among others.  There are a TON of bands each year as there are over a hundred this year.  The set dates for summer 2010 are August 6-8.

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails @ Lollapalooza 1991

The word “Lollapalooza” dates from an American idiom from the late 19th century meaning “one that is extraordinarily impressive; also, an outstanding example”

What many people do not know is the impact it has had on other bands and concerts around the globe.  It was created in 1991 by Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Ferrell as a farewell tour for his band (even though they reunited later on).

JanesAddictionJustBecause

The inaugural 1991 lineup was made up of artists from various genres, drawing in headliners from post punk such as Siouxsie and the Banshees to rap such as Ice-T as well as industrial such as Nine Inch Nails. This concert is best known as Nine Inch Nails’ first big break into mainstream music and where they first became popular.

Bands such as Tool, Primus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam,and others were known to make their big breaks at this festival over the years.

To hear more about the Lollapalooza Festival this summer, listen to “The True Raprock Hour” with Alex Howard from 3-4pm every Thursday!!! Tomorrow’s show will focus on this summer’s Lollapalooza Festival and the reuniting of Soundgarden.

Be Where Music is This Summer: Everywhere

Filed under: Uncategorized —— Alex Howard @ 10:35 pm

As we move closer and closer to the summer, more and more concerts and festivals open up to the public’s eye. Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Warped Tour, Bamboozle, and plenty of other festivals are going on this summer so it is not difficult to find a festival that you are looking for.  Keep an eye open for festivals coming toward you!!!  It will be hard to miss.

bonnaroo_aerial_1280x1024

On my last show, I talked all about the Mayhem Festival hosted by Rockstar Energy Drink as well as the highly anticipated Kings of Leon summer tour.  Korn and Rob Zombie are headlining the Mayhem festival as the tour starts on Saturday, July 10th in San Bernardino, CA, and runs all across the states and ending on Saturday, August 14th in Oklahoma City.  If you love these bands, buy tickets now! I know I am!

For Kings of Leon, they haven’t toured in a while and are reportedly “stoked” about the tour.  They will be headlining the Bonnaroo music festival and starting the tour June 5th in Atlantic City, NJ, then ending on September 23rd in Dallas.  These tickets will sell out faster than the Mayhem Festival.

True Raprock Hour Part 5 starting next week

Filed under: Uncategorized —— Alex Howard @ 10:39 pm

As expected, there was no show this week because of spring break. The show will resume next Thursday, the 18th. There will be plenty more new music being played, and some stuff you probably will never hear anywhere else.

The decade of the 90s is known for having an obscure variety of music and one-hit wonders. I will talk about this a lot more on my next show, and play some bands that are forgotten because of having only one hit.  Bands such as the Folk Implosion, School of Fish,  American Music Club, and others are pretty much unknown bands but were a huge influence on mainstream bands at the time.

As always, there will be “The Band of the Day” segment, music news, concert updates, and the best rap and rock of the 90s. If you got any requests, shoot them my way at 703-993-WGMU, George Mason’s one and only radio station.

The 4th True Raprock Hour Show

Filed under: Uncategorized —— Alex Howard @ 2:33 pm

On this edition of the show, I added new music for both rap and rock music.  This show was a lot more old-school rap based as I played music from rap artists like Nice n’ Smooth, Big L, Public Enemy, and plenty more.  You can expect this more often on my show, as I will give you the best mix of rap and rock of the 90s, 100% guaranteed!!!!

Big-l-big-picture-album

I also talked about a rumor about a possible Who-Led Zepplin supergroup. That’s right, Roger Daltrey of The Who and Jimmy Page of Led Zepplin are discussing a possibility of have a Who-Led Zepplin supergroup! Roger Daultry has said he wants to start this band and incorporate a lot more blues than usual, which is a lot different from the sound heard from The Who and Led Zepplin.  So this will be interesting to see when it all plays out in the end.

On today’s edition of my show, I mixed it up a little more and added more rap than rock for once.  I also had a lot to talk about with music news, and talked about the Deftones new album coming out on May 18th,and their new single, “Rocket Skates.”

I also talked all about Alice in Chains and how ex-bassist Mike Starr is holding up on the VH1 show, “Celebrity Rehab.” As usual I played the best rock and rap of the 90s, one of the best music decades.
